I got to drive an S550 Mustang for the first time the other day and I have to say I’m pretty impressed. As someone who is completely sold on the 6th gen Camaro I think these new mustangs actually give it a run for its money, the shiftier is nice with pretty decent throws and that 5.0 makes nice noise, but seems to be asleep until about 3k which was the only down side in my mind.

Picture of said Mustang for your time.

Such a great price proposition— $29,500 for a barebones V8 with everything you’d need and the 6-speed manual.

Have a chance to throw it into a series of turns? I’m curious how the V8 does with weight transfers, the 2.3T was shockingly precise and tossable.

Haven’t rode or drove a 6th gen Camaro, but have rode in a new 5.0 and I wasn't that impressed, granted it does run quicker 1/4 miles than my 14 SS, for the time being, the butt test just didn't make me even question that I bought the wrong car. The 5.0 like a dog in the butt test. The more impressive car was the scat pack challenger I drove. Holy cow that pig can move!

The v8 feels a little nose heavy but nothing awful. And this is a 2015 premium and is 32k with only 4800 miles..

The new SS makes the 5th gen feel like a dog. Its so very fast.

That they are, my best 1/4 in my 14 SS is a 13.3, buddy in my Camaro club bought a 17 SS, first pass was a 12.2. Just insane.

The LT1 has to be underated. My butt dyno thinks its closer to 450 at the wheels

I’ll find out this Saturday, my club is doing a dyno day. We have two 17 SS cars going. One auto and one manual. I’m taking my 68 to see what the old 327 does. Also going to have a 16 5.0 and a Scat Pack challenger as well

title says ‘first taste of the 5.0' but you never actually mention what it tasted like.

Ugh, yuck! I do see they’ve raised the prices already this year:

http://www.ford.com/cars/mustang/t…

That was starting at $29.5 last time I looked. Regardless, 30+K without the spectacular IRS they’ve put into the new models, no thanks, don’t imagine that’ll be flying off the lot at $32K!

Used is the way to go on these.

Oh def, in about 5 years they’ll be properly depreciated down to $13K or so— that’ll be my time to pounce. I’d consider the Camaro but I just can’t abide that tank-like greenhouse....

I bet it’s still more awake than my car below 3k... 4100lbs and under 200 horsepower at that point.

Scat Pack Challenger has such an amazing motor, and around town/long drives it’s pretty great. At an autocross it’s horrendously bad. The tires aren’t wide enough, the car is enormous, and it handles pretty much like a boat.

I test drove a ‘16 GT and ‘15 Ecoboost back to back once. Honestly I was more impressed by the Ecoboost.

I’ve ridden in a GT at autocrossed and autocrossed an Ecoboost (mine). The V8 did well, but he had an upgraded rear swaybar. It did feel a bit nose/top heavy compared to mine. Word on the street is the Ecoboost has better balance.

I’ve autocrossed mine a lot, and I think it’s an exceptionally well handling car. I don’t know that tossable is a word I would use, it is big and it is heavy and you feel it. It’s far more precise than you’d expect, and it’s very controllable. I’ve gotten the back loose but only really spun it completely once.

Yeah, my buddy with the scat pack just drag races it. For such a heavy car it's flat moves. My 14 Camaro just won't hook up, I'm looking at some drag radial but from what I have read my main problem is just having a IRS that has way too many rubber bushings.

The S550 has always been $33k for the base GT. Premium is so much nicer though.

Yep my old E24's m30b35 only came to life after 4k. At least you’re probably getting good mileage in the M at that point!

On average people are getting 390-410 rwhp stock. They definitely scoot though.

Still figuring 15% drivetrain lost that puts them 450-470 which is pretty healthy.

I think Ford is very slowly winding out the full performance of the 5.0, leaving much on the table for mods.
